ReCAP of Together in Education’s 2nd Annual Viking 5K on Sears Island

The fear was that it would rain, as it did last year, on the largest single fundraiser of the year for TIE (Together in Education, the non-profit organization that supports SDMS and SDHS.) Although it misted during set up, and the start of the race was cloudy - by mid-race, the sun was shining brilliantly.

Twenty students ran in the Viking 5K, as did Principal Hoffman and Dean of Students/Athletic Director John Williamson. Several SDMS staff members ( Mike Vasiliauskas, Mary Vasiliauskas and Betty Fraser) helped set up and conduct the race. Viking athletes, particularly high school athletes,  were well represented. Six members of the SDHS Boys’ Soccer Team ran in support of their school, led by Senior Dylon Grant, (who took second place, overall, in the race.)  Freshman Devin Fairbrother represented the SDHS Boys’ XC Team, running his second 5K in two days, placing third, overall. Seventh grader William Bradley represented the Middle School Boys’ Cross Country Team, while two 6th grade members of the SDMS Boys’ Soccer Team, Gabe Kneeland and Gabe Poulin, also ran. Paige Ireland, Audrey Walker and Madison Philbrick represented the SDHS Girls’ XC Team.  Meghan Grant, Meagan McKeon, Karigen Coffin, Lilah Chaar and Brooklyn Alberts ran for the SDHS Girls’ Soccer Team. Emma Gaecklein ran in representation of the SDMS Girls’ XC Team. Junior Dana Wilson also ran the race.

Thank you to all the parents, students, staff and community members who came out and supported this event! All proceeds from the race flow directly to the support of our students at Searsport District Middle School and High School.
