Several 9th grade students presented at the ACTEM statewide technology education conference in Augusta on October 12th. The annual gathering is attended by more than 800 educators and technology leaders from around the state. Along with Technology Integrator Susan Capwell, students Kyla Perkins, Emma Gaecklein, Ellis Braga, Eli Law, Max Provencher and Dawson Bierwas led a 2-hour workshop on makerspaces and making in the classroom. Ms. Capwell and students led discussions about how, why and when to using making in the classroom, and shared some of the projects they’ve done with the Searsport STEAM Lab makerspace. Following the presentation, students demonstrated various ‘maker’ tools while participants enjoyed a ‘mini-makerspace’ experience. Their presentation was very well received, and all the students represented Searsport with Viking professionalism.
